The Village Hall

The above foundation stones
are embedded into the gable of the Village Hall

The early history of the Village Hall is closely linked with that of the Foulridge Ambulance Division, which was responsible for raising money to purchase the land on Town Gate on which the Assembly Hall, as it was then known, was built.
The Stone Laying Ceremony took place on the 22nd January 1898 and each of the stone layers - Dr. A. A. G. Dickey of Colne, Mrs. Eleanor Anderton of Burwains and Edward Carr of Langroyd - were presented with a trowel to mark the occasion.  Their initials can be seen on the foundation stones of the building.  Beneath one of the stones is a 'time capsule' containing a statement drawn up by Mr. Whitworth, the first Clerk to the Parish Council
