Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000:  Last September saw the introduction of the new right to roam laws which has given walkers an historic chance to explore new areas with Bouldsworth Hill being listed as one of the top ten areas to be opened up to the public.  The new Act has legally opened up areas of open countryside and common land in the South East and North West for the first time.

Whilst walkers will be able to wander freely 'across land' the new right does not include riding a horse or bicycle or driving a vehicle and certain other activities such as camping.  Access may sometimes be restricted for reasons such as land or livestock management or nature conservation.

There are places where the public cannot go and these include golf courses unless there is an existing footpath, gardens, quarries and arable land.  For more information log onto www.countryside.gov.uk/access

Walking in Pendle:  'The Pendle Way' or the 'Six Circular Walks in Pendle' are highly recommended.  The routes take in some of the best scenery in Pendle.
The Pendle Way is a 45 mile medium distance walk suitable for spreading over several days of walking, with the circular walks averaging 6 - 8 miles and each adopting a different theme

Walk Packs are available for £3 direct from the countryside access team or from tourist information centres and other countryside outlets within the district.

Ordnance Survey Explorer OL21 map covers the whole of the district and is at a scale of 1:25,000 which is best suited for footpath and bridleway users.
